There is so much evidence about the existence of Jesus ....and not just His apostles and disciples writing about Him, but other historians of that period.
So, it seems that if one wants to erode the foundation of Christian faith ...the other layers of belief would be the most effective way to start.
First, they look to build up their opinions by ridiculing what has already been provided as truth ,,,and it is presented that there are errors in the Bible.
One of the more popular claims is that Moses never existed, or he overinflated his own existence and the spectacular events surrounding him. And if doubt can be established, then the Creation event and Adam & Eve ...and actually the entire Torah (first 5 Books of the Bible) can be discounted.
Yet, there is still a strong and firmly established belief in Jesus ...and Jesus mentioned Moses, as the Apostle John writes in his Gospel writings about Jesus.
Then it has been said that only the Synoptic Gospels should be trusted, which excludes the Gospel According to John. Yet, all three of the Synoptic Gospels mention the 'transfiguration' with Moses and Elijah appearing.
So, what's next???
Well, then comes extra documents ---one of which reports of when Jesus was a child ---of Him getting mad, which leads his temper out-of-control and results in Jesus killing a child. Jesus then did reportedly bring the child back to life, but the initial act is still sin ...and who among us would not be thrilled with being able to change the results of some of our own actions. But, Jesus is without sin or blemish ---so, it's not just Jesus fixing his wrongdoing or sin ---as Jesus did not sin.
Yet still, though records may be inaccurate in depicting the early life of Jesus, it still leaves an impression and festers doubt. And instead of attempting to discount the four Gospels about Jesus ...other documents are added to create a picture of Jesus that none of the Gospels mention. So, instead of challenging what is there for everyone to read, they present something that has not been widely read.
Now, the latest that I read about this week is about personal experiences. We are told we are to have a personal relationship upon opening our hearts to Jesus ...and we are to experience Him in our lives. And for several years now, I've heard of people who die (clinically dead) and come back to life. These people have been interviewed, have written books, and some have had movies based upon their experiences. And these people tell such beautiful stories ...yet I can sum up what they say in a couple sentences, as they say it is proof that Heaven is real.
I'd say that the majority of us want to believe in a pleasant afterlife for us ...and for our loved ones. And that is what salvation is about ...being able to enter an afterlife free from the disturbing realities always existing somewhere in this earthly life. It is comforting to visualize being 'saved' from all the things in this life that are undesirable ...and being able to enter a heavenly abode.
But, now I've read of reports of foreboding experiences. Among the reports from people who have died and experienced wonderful, indescribable peace and joy ...well, there are those who say they did not experience hell, but that they somehow saw that the peace and joy was just a ruse depicting a wonderful afterlife, and that we are just going to be slaves in the afterlife. And reportedly one of the authors admitted to making up a wonderful story, yet agreed with the one who said we'd all be slaves, and would be treated harshly.
So, instead of trying to discount Jesus and all that He did ...it appears they are saying He did it for nothing. We wouldn't be free, and we wouldn't be saved ...unless it is considered that we are saved for slavery. Instead of discounting Jesus, a deception is created ---not that unlike what was presented in the Garden of Eden, questioning what God said, and His motive laced with deception.
As for me ...I believe in the promises that Jesus made clear, with no deception. And I believe in His genuine love for us.
